In the newly released MMORP game called Rift: Planes of Telara players are able to take advantage of the intensive system of creating macros. Many players are unaware of their potential and skip them entirely, but they are extremely helpful with making your everyday game play easier and faster.
Macros in Rift enable you to do various automated tasks with a pre-defined script, and they are perfectly legal to use. The macros system allows you to go define which spells you want to cast or abilities to use, and you can even queue multiple abilities to cast one after another. But this is just one of the things you can do using macros: you should definitely familiarize yourself with all the slash commands and macro commands, then you will easily be able to build your own custom macros for the classes that you play.
A great example macro would be one created for the Warden and Sentinel souls, which are part of the Cleric calling. A warden is a very good healing class and has access to plenty of Heal Over Time (HoT) spells, and having them all clutter your action bars can be often overwhelming and confusing. That's why you can create a macro to have all these healing capabilities easily accessible with only one action bar icon, but by using different key modifiers you are able to cast any of these spells. The key modifiers can be ALT, CTRL or SHIFT keys. You can even go one step further and make these spells castable on the target you currently have your mouse over them. This way you will not even have to waste time to select the player you want to heal, but rather have very quick access and response time.
There are pre-made macros like this one you can find on various forums and guild fan sites but they are typically scattered around the web and it can be hard to find exactly what you're looking for. There's one great macros resource you can use which has a ton of different macros you can simply copy and paste in the game's macros editor window and they will work right off the bat. They are very helpful and can significantly improve your performance in game and help automate a variety of tasks such as healing or damage dealing. Make sure you visit the resources below to find out what the most useful macros for your calling and class are.
